Uganda's Children
Every three seconds poverty kills a child...EVERY THREE SECONDS! It sounds so unbelievable. Sadly, it's very true. There are reports that this statistic is improving, but the numbers are still very high. The battle against poverty is a long way off. The number one killer of children in Uganda is measles, followed by dysentary and starvation. Churches are beginning to take their role in caring for the children devastated by poverty, injustice and oppression, but many are not sure what to do or how to make a difference.
Heart of God Uganda is dedicated to being an advocate for the children and adults living in horrific conditions. Our prayers are that you would come along side Heart of God Uganda, and be a voice to those around you about God's heart for the millions of children and adults who are living in poverty. Often times when a parent is sick and dying from AIDS/HIV, the oldest child becomes the parent. They are no longer able to go to school and must care for the dying parent as well as work and take care of the younger siblings. The ages of these chidlren taking care of siblings can be as young as six years old. This in most cases is the standard for living in remote areas of Uganda.
The children's education is an important aspect of Heart of God Uganda. Many children never get the opportunity to attend school. Those that do, go to school hungry, making it next to impossible to learn. Statistics show that only 9% of 1st grade children pass to the next level. With your help Heart of God in Uganda can make a huge impact on the lives of Ugandan children.

You've perhaps read about the horrors among the Karamoja. But, have you taken the time to really understand what it's like for a child to live a life of a throw-away or disposable life? In a culture where witchdoctors are common; abandoned children are often used as a form of sacrifice. Abandoned children living in remand homes often escape, greatly increasing the possibility of becoming a witchdoctors sacrificial victim. Please take a few minutes and read our latest Press Release which more fully explains the plight of these children, aged 2 to 18...parentless, unwanted and cast out by family and villagers, having been subjected to physical, emotional, and sexual abuse.
